Taste the Farm Fresh Difference!

DSCN0921

If you think this winter’s weather played havoc with your world, imagine what it did to all our neighboring Amish and Mennonite farmers.  After contending with extended cold, snow, snow, ice and snow, their fields were soaked by rainstorm after rainstorm.  Spring plantings had to be postponed many weeks, pushing Lancaster County’s first harvests back into May and June.

But good things do, indeed, come to those who wait.  After much anticipation the farm fresh season has come to Lancaster County—and to the Bird-in-Hand Family Restaurant & Smorgasbord and Bird-in-Hand Bakery & Cafe.  Our salad bar and salad selections are now an ever-changing medley of fresh green, red and romaine lettuces and spinach.  Joining these greens to garnish your salads are freshly picked radishes, green peppers, cucumbers, red beets, grape tomatoes, tomatoes and broccoli.  Sides and Grandma Smucker’s favorite casseroles feature such fresh vegetables as cabbage, kale, sugar peas, yellow wax beans, red, new and sweet potatoes, green peppers, zucchini, broccoli, cucumbers and sweet corn.  And don’t forget dessert!  Strawberries debut the season, soon followed by blackberries, raspberries, cantaloupe, watermelon and peaches.  Our bakers can’t wipe the smiles off their faces!

Put smiles on your face by visiting us any time you can this season.  You never know what our farmers have harvested for you to enjoy.
